Jim opened a restaurant in town, and he was good at cooking. In spite of delicious food and reasonable price, business was not good. Jim was so annoyed about it.

One day, Tom, Jim’s previous college classmate, visited Jim. Jim invited Tom to taste food, and hoped Tom could have a good idea. Tom was very clever and he always had various ideas. Tom praised delicious food and basically ate all of food which was prepared by Jim. After Tom finished his dinner he asked Jim to close restaurant at once. Jim felt strange. Now it was 9 O ’clock, which was too early to close restaurant. Jim told Tom if he wanted to know how to increase number of customer at once, they can sit in corner. There were several customers in lobby, so Jim didn’t think voice from customers could affect them. Tom said serious, “I means if you want booming business, you should close restaurant at 9 O’clock. Please trust me, customers could be increased in one month.” Just at that moment, a couple of young lovers were approaching. Suddenly Tom cried, “Sorry, we would prepare closing, please come earlier next time.” Jim was astonished for what Tom said, but he took action at once. He smiled and told young men that was joking and hope them having dinner here. But the young men refused. So Jim was forced to close restaurant.

Tom visited Jim’s restaurant at 7o’clock p.m., which was best time for restaurant. He claimed loudly with a speaker, “Our store has new regulation that we opened in 4 o’clock and closed in 9 o’clock, so I hope everyone coming earlier.” Jim thought it was bad idea to agree with Tom. Until 8:45, a middle age man came in., but Tom refused him to step in, he said, “It is time to close, I am sorry please come earlier next time.” The man left angrily.

A month later, Jim found his restaurant began got much more profit and customers increased. So he asked Tom the reason.

Tom smile and said, “At first, waiters can boost quality of service for short working time. Second, driving off new customers for they want to find out what happened.”
